Our chat system appears automatically in a bar at the bottom of our page
Only members of the Research Cooperative can use this, and the system cannot be used until you have signed in.
After signing in, you will automatically be shown as online with a mini profile image, in the pop-out chat panel. If you do not wish to be seen in the chat panel, change the 'online' setting to 'offline' using the bowling pin icon at right in the bar.
Your image will disappear from the chat panel, but you will still be online for all other functions of the website.
Use the box at the bottom of the panel to write a public chat message, then press return to send it. The message will remain visible to all members who sign in, until an administrator has cleared the message panel. Periodic clearing is needed to keep the message thread simple and current.
If another person is online inside the chat panel, you can click on their icon and then select private chat from the menu that appears. If the other person is not watching the chat panel, they will not see your message and will not respond.
Your private chat messages will disappear when both participants have completely signed out from the site. If you or the other person leaves the 'chat room' the conversation can be continued by the remaining person one-sidedly.
The conversation should reappear when both participants make contact with each other again, using the private chat option.
