Much has been said about English being THE language of international research, but in reality, the international research community is EXTREMELY multilingual.
English and some other languages may be more common as languages for publishing the results of research, but the research itself is conducted in a multitude of different languages.
The Research Cooperative has been created to help mediate between the extreme multilingual world in which individual researchers live, and the less multilingual world of scientific writing and publishing.
We only need a few common languages to build international research communities, but we also need all language communities to participate and contribute to research from different social, linguistic and geographical perspectives, in their own languages, in any language, in all languages.
Ultimately, the most notable research will eventually filter out to many audiences through translation, cross-fertilisation, and various direct or indirect routes.
A multilingual community is also possible, and we are it.
